Study from LNBE accepted as an oral presentation at the XII International Conference on Nanostructured Materials (NANO 2014)

The study on CdSe/ZnS/CdS/ZnS Multishell Quantum Dots with a Fluorescence Quantum Yield Reaching 100% by Pavel Linkov and Pavel Samokhvalov, of the LNBE Nanochemistry Group, have been accepted as an oral presentation at NANO 2014, the XII International Conference on Nanostructured Materials to be held this July in Moscow, Russia.

The authors have engineered CdSe-core quantum dots with a shell of three monolayers of semiconductors, CdSe/ZnS/CdS/ZnS. This structure ensures a strong charge carrier localization, minimal lattice mismatch, and reliable protection of the quantum dot core from environment without considerably increasing the nanoparticle size. These quantum dots of a new generation have a fluorescence quantum yield of at least 97% and can be made highly stable in aqueous medium and biological tissues. The new generation of quantum dots is promising as a basis of potent tools for biological research and medicine; some examples of these applications will be presented at the conference.

International Conferences on Nanostructured Materials are a representative biannual forum mainly dealing with novel nanomaterials and their practical applications. This year's conference will be the first one to be held in Russia. It is organized by Moscow State University, assisted by academics from a number of leading Russian universities and colleges, including National Research Nuclear University MEPhI.
